Horace Heidt and His Californians broke all existing attendance records at the Palace Theatre in New York City during their 14 week stay in 1929. This DVD was restored at UCLA by putting together the audio, 78 rpm sent in by collectors and the film, archived at the US Library of Congress. It is a rare and early look at the energy and style of this innovative band that later became world famous as Horace Heidt and his Musical Knights on National radio and television. Pay special attention to the band’s recordings of Tiger Rag and the Carnival of Venice. It is easy to see why this band was one of the first bands to perform on TV. Originally this film was a Vitaphone short (Warner Brothers) shown at movie houses throughout the country.

Enjoy,
Horace Heidt, Jr.
